About
Dakota Yewen is a potter and maker in pursuit of pleasure.
With a focus on pairing back to the essential and bringing softness and beauty to every moment, her work explores the connections between self, people, place and objects.
Working primarily in ceramic for the past decade, with a studio practice that also encompasses film, photography, sculpture and printmaking, Dakota draws upon the imperfections in nature to bring forth a sense of awe and reverence for the natural world. The objects she creates are inherently tactile, humble and warm, inviting a feeling of calm and quiet to wherever they rest.
The fluidity of her wheel-throwing process highlights an intimate connection between material and maker, wherein expressive movements and subtle gestures result in gentle lines and simple forms. Once fired to 1280ºC, each vessel captures the evidence of human touch, a moment paused, vitrified and frozen in time.
Dakota’s limited release collections reflect her slow and intentional making processes, each object created one of a kind and often never to be repeated.
